You'll also have opportunities to learn new skills, operate equipment, and grow your career within Public Works.What You'll DoStreet MaintenanceAssist with repairs, patching, and maintenance for the City's asphalt and concrete foundationsOperate and maintain tools and equipment used in roadwork and constructionSupport preparation, placement, and finishing of asphalt and concrete surfacesTeamwork & Field OperationsWork closely with crew members to complete projects safely and efficientlyFollow direction from leadership while contributing to a positive team environmentHelp set up traffic control and maintain safe work zonesGeneral Maintenance & SupportPerform routine maintenance on streets, sidewalks, and related infrastructureAssist with snow removal, storm response, and other seasonal Public Works activitiesMaintain equipment and report any issues or needed repairsWhat You BringStrong work ethic and dependable attendancePositive attitude and willingness to learn new skillsAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsTeam-first mindset with a commitment to safetyPride in producing quality work that serves the communityMinimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentValid driver's license with a good driving recordAbility to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periodsPreferred, But Not RequiredExperience in asphalt and/or concrete work, construction, or general maintenanceExperience operating equipment such as dump trucks, rollers, or skid steersCommercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain within a specified timeframeSchedule & Work EnvironmentTypical schedule: four 10-hour shifts, 6:00am – 4:30pm (may vary by project)Overtime opportunities may occur during peak work periods, snow/ice events, or emergency responseWork is performed outdoors in all weather conditionsThis is a physically active, hands-on role with a team that relies on each other every dayPay & BenefitsStarting Rate of Pay: $22.06 - $25.00 hourly, depending on qualificationsRetirement options: Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS) and 457(b) optionsInsurance benefits: begins the first day of the month after you startPaid Time Off: vacation, sick, and personal leave plus holidays
